When I say brighter, it's not full blown gamma abuse, because no one wants to ruin their experience with the game like that, but think 4-5% brightness increase just so you're not completely blind when entering Customs Warehouse for example. The way I have setup mine is to increase sharpness and make the game a little brighter, especially because my monitor is IPS and can make the darkness of the game some extra dark. Reshade has minimal performance drawbacks on your game, think 0.5-1FPS at most, but again it depends on the effects you want to use and your machine. It can increase your immersion into the game by allowing you to make the game more vibrant (or not, for instance I don't have vibrancy increased), more sharp and even use cinematic color grading. But what they don't realize is that using Reshade you can make the quality of the picture many times better than what the standard game can provide.
Most people don't like to use such apps because it takes time to tinker with the settings, so they just say it's only cheaters that like to use it. Similar to how Squad.exe wouldn't start if Reshade.dll is active.
If Reshade was ever considered a cheat, it will be simply made impossible to run the game while Reshade is installed, this way people who already have it, won't accidentaly get a ban for it. There are certain ways you can use Reshade to make the game brighter, but you can use Nvidia control panel for that too. Reshade is not cheating and is not bannable.
